It’s that time of year – Lunar New Year celebrations begin next week around the world. To help everyone celebrate the season, InstantStudio has launched a festive selfie maker that transforms your photos into colorful, personalized cards. As with our earlier releases, this is an example of a Custom Endpoint at work. Let’s take a closer look at how this project came together and went into production in just two days.
It’s 2025, the Year of the Snake! The creative vision for this demo was to transport users back to ancient China, where the new year traditions of family gatherings and fireworks began. We used a classic, kid-friendly animation style and incorporated traditional New Year’s greetings like:
Using ToolKit, we created a series of warm, nostalgic images that capture the spirit of the season.
After designing the creative assets, we plugged them into a Custom Endpoint, creating a test page where we could refine the image generation process. Using this page, you can quickly test your inputs, either through a simple form or API calls, ensuring the output is polished and ready for use.

With the backend ready, all we needed was a simple frontend. We built ours using Vue.js as a single-page application, offering a smooth and intuitive user experience. This flexible approach means the selfie maker can also be embedded into an existing website or service.
